Consent-Aware Data Routing in Biotech Platforms

Consent should not live only in a policy binder or contract repository. In biotech platforms, consent must become an enforceable routing condition for data access, analysis, model training, and export.

Authority

Health privacy rules, genomic data access requirements, and research data sharing policies all depend on authorized use. The technical system must therefore carry use limitations alongside the data, including derived data.

Issue

The failure mode is permission decay. Data are collected under one consent basis, transformed into features, joined with another cohort, and later used for a secondary analysis. If the platform cannot evaluate the permission at each step, governance becomes retrospective guesswork.

Resolution

The platform should encode consent terms, data use limitations, project approvals, revocation status, and export restrictions into policy-aware metadata. Query engines, workflow orchestrators, and model training jobs should reject unauthorized routes before data movement occurs.

The record should include consent mapping, authorization checks, rejected access attempts, derived artifact restrictions, export approvals, and revocation handling. A consent-aware platform proves that compliance was enforced at execution time.
